DescriptionThis poster, issued by Barack Obama’s presidential campaign in 2008, encourages early voting in the key state of Iowa, and served as a template that year for the campaign’s posters urging voting in other states (the name of the state was just changed). While, like Shepard Fairey’s iconic posters for the 2008 Obama campaign, it incorporates the patriotic, red, white, and blue, it is a very standard composition in contrast to these, featuring a simple illustration of the candidate and a great deal of practical information. On January 3, 2008, Obama had won the Iowa caucuses in a historic victory that ultimately led him to the White House. He was the first African American president of the United States and the first sitting senator to win the presidency since John F. Kennedy in 1960.
