DescriptionThis is the Egyptian Arabic-language poster for the Japanese-American co-production, King Kong Escapes, released in 1967. It shows the huge, rampaging ape battling his robot duplicate, Mechani-Kong, designed by the evil Dr. Who; this lurid illustrated movie poster, typical of the time, features the central characters surrounded by vignettes from the movie. The first King Kong film was the 1933 Hollywood concoction that incorporated the iconic scene of the creature climbing the Empire State Building, followed the same year by Son of Kong. Nearly three decades later, in 1962, the Japanese film studio Toho revived the beast in the hugely successful King Kong Vs. Godzilla, directed by the great Ishirō Honda, also the director of the next film in the series, King Kong Escapes, promoted here. While this film was not nearly as well received, it was also released internationally under several different names. The ape continues to this day to be represented in films and video games, sometimes in the guise of a brutal monster and at others as a misunderstood hero. On View
