DescriptionLudwig Hohlwein was a pioneer of the Sachplakat style of poster design that originated in Germany in the early 20th century. With its bold lettering and flat colors, simplified forms, and focus on a single item, this poster, advertising the Wilhelm Mozer delicatessen and wine dealer in Munich, reflects some of its characteristic elements. The lobster, so huge that it appears to extend beyond the image into the text space of the design, and the champagne bottles suggest that Mozer's was a luxury operation. It was one that also sold "Kolonialwaren" (exotic foreign items) but claimed, nonetheless, to offer "Alle Lebensmittel zu billigsten Tagespreisen" (All foodstuffs at the cheapest prices every day).
