DescriptionThis is one of several posters advertising Granger rough-cut tobacco that Ludwig Hohlwein designed while he was working in the United States during the 1920s, producing commercial illustrations for a range of American tobacco products and other items, as well as for the Los Angeles Olympics of 1932. Here, as in his other American posters, he has clearly adapted the ambitious design language of his German compositions in the Sachplakat style to the more traditional, illustrational idiom favored by American viewers at this time.
