DescriptionLudwig Hohlwein’s poster for the restaurant at the Deutsches Theater (German Theater) in Munich points to his early adoption of the reductive forms and color palette of the Sachplakat (object poster) style, one that he was soon to imbue with more volume, texture, and color. The theater itself was a huge complex that had been built in the neo-baroque style in 1896. By 1900, in order to revive the failing theater’s fortunes, the local Spatenbraueri (Spaten Brewery) opened a restaurant there, offering fine food and its own beer and wines.
