DescriptionThis poster advertising the newly popular zippers for men’s pants was issued by the Berlin branch of the American Dorland Advertising Agency during the early 1930s. For much of that decade, until he emigrated to the United States in 1938, Bauhaus designer Herbert Beyer was its creative director. While his reputation was ultimately tarnished by the propaganda he produced for the Nazi regime after 1933, this poster by an unknown designer points to Beyer’s promotion of avant-garde graphic design featuring abstract forms and photomontage in the service of the agency’s commercial work.
