DescriptionThis elegant Art Deco poster advertising a men’s clothing store in Vienna was designed by Atelier Hans Neumann. After professional training in Berlin, Neumann opened his own studio in Vienna in 1919. During the 1920s and ‘30s, its posters could be seen all over the city and it quickly developed into one of the most important graphic-design studios in the German-speaking world. The studio produced posters, advertisements, brochures, and covers for music scores, among other designs, and anticipated several of the strategies of modern advertising agencies. In 1938, Hans Neumann fled Nazi-occupied Vienna for Sydney, Australia, where he established a new studio.
