DescriptionThis poster was designed by British illustrator, painter, and political cartoonist Clive Uptton for the Gold Coast Cocoa Marketing Board. Like other posters published by the Gold Coast Cocoa Marketing Board, it intended to promote its product and to obscure the exploitative nature of the country’s cocoa industry. Uptton had actually illustrated a book published by the same board in 1950 called Kofi the Good Farmer, featuring the same character. This served both as a primer for the cocoa farmer and a promotional work describing every stage in the process of farming and selling cocoa beans.
