DescriptionRoudaki Hall opened in Tehran in 1967 as a performance venue intended to revive Iranian art and culture through the performing arts and introduce Western artists to the public. During this relatively liberal period, Iranian graphic design also began to flourish. Cutting-edge programs in modern art and design were offered at the University of Tehran, supported by the monarchy state, and major designers were commissioned to create posters for the venue. While the 1979 Islamic Revolution devasted such artistic developments (and Roudaki Hall was renamed Vahdat Hall), by the time this poster was produced in around 1990, a new generation of Iranian graphic designers had emerged, basing their work on traditional Persian motifs while seeking to establish an independent Iranian visual identity.
