DescriptionThis is one of three posters designed by Peter Teubner for the “Aspects of New York City” series commissioned and donated to the city by the Container Corporation of America (CCA). Several designers worked on the posters, each incorporating bold modernist abstractions like this one; the series is now seen as one of the most ambitious and creative public art projects of the last century. After the ten posters were presented in a ceremony at City Hall in April 1969, they were pasted throughout the city in public buildings, subway platforms, parks, and community clubs. It seems that the series was originally intended to extend to 50 posters, as the New York Times reported after the ceremony. The CCA’s president stated then that the CCA saw the first ten as “the beginnings of a civic poster campaign for New York.”
