DescriptionThis theater-lobby poster promotes Dolby Stereo Digital, a new surround-sound technology for 35mm film developed by the American corporation Dolby Laboratories in 1991. Batman Returns, released in 1992, was the first film to use Dolby Stereo Digital, which produced enhanced sound quality and clarity. The logo incorporates the double “D” in mirror image next to the name of the Dolby product and appeared in various versions over the decades. It is repeated on the cells of the film strip here that emerges from a brightly lit ground evoking the colorful glow of modern media screens.
