DescriptionThis poster promotes one of Errol Flynn’s late films for Warner Brothers, the 1948 Adventures of Don Juan. In it, he plays the legendary Spanish lothario and adventurer who returns to Spain to protect his queen from sinister forces. The 1940s witnessed the full emergence of Technicolor and this was often emphasized in vibrant posters like this one. Hollywood was also in its heyday during this decade and the star power of actors like Flynn, one of Warner Brothers’ biggest stars since 1935, was fully promoted, as was their connection to specific genres. In this case, audiences are treated to an image of Flynn in one of the classic swashbuckling poses he adopted in numerous films, perhaps most famously The Adventures of Robin Hood from 1938 (in which he appeared in a very similar green costume). As in many film posters of this period and later, illustrated vignettes from the movie surround the main image of the actor. On View
