DescriptionThis is one of Cappiello’s earliest posters for Devambez publishers, designed shortly after World War I. In this advertisement for the medical dressings offered by Les Pansements “La Croix-Soleil,” he transforms the nurse in white robes unrolling a bandage under the Christian symbol of the sun cross (lettered with the initials of the company’s name, LPCS), into an almost holy image of mercy and healing. Although this is one of the designer’s more austere images, here, as so often, he nonetheless evokes an idea or a mood to promote what might well be a mundane commercial object. On View
