DescriptionThis poster promotes a concert by the Mexican Youth Choir held in Warsaw in May 1968. This was a year of dramatic events for both countries: in Mexico there was the Mexican Student Movement, the Tlatelolco Massacre, and the Summer Olympics, while Poland witnessed student protests against the ruling Polish United Workers’ Party and a mass exodus of much of the country’s surviving Jewish population following an antisemitic campaign by the party. This innocuous image of a guitar, its graduated stripes of color suggesting the tie-dye patterns popular at the time, is by the Polish graphic designer Jan Heydrich, who produced many images for cultural events in Poland during the late 1960s and early 1970s.On View
