DescriptionThis poster promotes the Swiss release of the 1949 French film Manon and is a simplified variant of one designed by Paul Colin. Clouzot’s film is loosely based on Abbé Prévost’s 1731 novel Manon Lescault, updated to wartime Europe. Here, Manon is a young French woman accused of collaboration with the Nazi occupiers; she is rescued by a Resistance soldier who then falls in love with her. This now-controversial film won the Golden Lion at the 1949 Venice Film Festival.
