DescriptionWith the success of Masterpiece Theatre, Mobil saw an opportunity to expand its positive cultural influence by entering the field of British crime drama. Therefore, in 1979, it launched Mystery! on PBS. While more restrained than Emanuel Schongut’s many book-jacket illustrations, in this poster he introduces a quiet sense of foreboding around the gothic tale, Rebecca. In the foreground, the young bride contemplates something just beyond our view, while a devious Mrs. Danvers sneers at her presence, casting an ominous shadow over the grounds of Manderley. On View
