DescriptionThis World War I poster, showing a Red Cross nurse holding one end of a stretcher with the other extended toward the viewer, was issued by the American Red Cross to promote its goal of raising one hundred million dollars during its War Fund Week, held from May 20 to May 27 of 1918. Once the United States entered the war in April 2017, the American Red Cross, a small organization, was inundated with volunteers and federal funding. These developments ultimately allowed it to establish itself as part of a global operation. American illustrator William B. King worked for both fiction publishers and national magazines and designed several propaganda posters during the war.
