DescriptionA section of this image, based on a patriotic painting by painter and magazine illustrator Herbert Morton Stoops, was published on the cover of Blue Book, an adventure-fiction magazine with which he had been involved to varying degrees since 1914. As the printed text at upper right indicates, the magazine retained copyright of the image, which very much reflects the artist's traditional illustrational style. It is used here in its full form to promote war bonds, soon after the United States entered the war in December 1941 following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. At the top of the poster is a detailed description of the scene in which American soldiers from past conflicts carry the flags of their eras together into battle under the slogan “The Hope of All the World.” On View
