DescriptionThis is one from a series of posters illustrated by Welsh artist Roland Davies during World War II. Each poster was intended to promote British military efforts abroad. Another in the series, for example, shows “One of the magnificent British fighters which have shot down over 3,000 German planes” while another boasts that “British fighters sweep hourly across France, cheered by French peasants.” Variants of each poster were published in French, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, Persian, and Arabic. Curiously, the illustration here appears to be based on photographs of the British Grand Fleet at the Battle of Jutland in 1916, with only the planes above distinguishing it as a World War II subject.
