DescriptionThis is one of two clever posters designed during the 1930s by Gino Boccasile for Bantam Hats in Milan. The sophisticated, minimalist Art Deco design, in which the stylized figure of the man brandishing an eye-catching green Bantam hat is comprised of the company’s initials, was produced by Edizione Acta, the agency the artist founded in Milan in 1932. During the war, as a fanatical supporter of Mussolini, he designed many violent and often racist posters in support of the regime and its allies. By late 1946, however, he was working again for many of his original Italian clients, producing mostly conventional, figurative poster designs for sewing machines, toothpaste, holiday destinations, and domestic appliances featuring his signature alluring women and chubby babies.
