DescriptionApple Computer’s Lisa desk-top computer was introduced in 1983 and named after the daughter of Steve Jobs, the cofounder of Apple. The Lisa was the first mass-market personal computer operable through a graphical user interface (GUI) but was quickly superseded by Apple’s Macintosh, launched the following year. Michael Cronan’s composition emphasizes the dramatic possibilities offered by the new computer. He shows the Lisa in a futuristic landscape while a ghostly figure in the background gestures to the glowing horizon before him. Award-winning designer Cronan first became nationally known in the 1980s as part of a group of San Francisco–based designers nicknamed “The Michaels” (the others were Vanderbyl, Mabry, and Manwaring).On View
