DescriptionCappiello’s design for Veuve Amiot sparkling wines, known as the Cremant du Roi or “sparkling wine of kings,” again draws the viewer’s attention with a flamboyant figure wearing an eye-catching red garment emerging from a dark ground, in this case a rather mannered king. The product itself is represented by the two relatively small bottles on the ground at lower left. The Veuve Amiot vineyard, still in operation, was founded in the Loire region in 1884 by Elisa Amiot, the “Widow Amiot,” after the death of her wine merchant husband. On View
