DescriptionDan Reisinger, the eminent Israeli graphic designer, made this poster to draw attention to the campaign of ethnic cleansing of the non-Arab population by the Sudanese government during the war in the Darfur region of Sudan, which began in February 2003. Hundreds of thousands of civilians were killed and more than 2.5 million people were displaced. Reisinger was born in Yugoslavia and moved to Israel as a teenager in 1949 after the murder of most of his family during the Holocaust. He trained as an artist and went on to design calendars, packaging, military medals, logos, postage stamps, and posters, among other works. His posters tend to be minimal and feature clever, boldly colorful designs like this one; he produced posters for commercial organizations like El Al airlines and for Israeli commemorations as well as many addressing political and social-justice issues. In 1998, he was awarded the Israel Prize, the first given to a graphic designer, for “imprinting his mark on the visual language of Israel.”
