DescriptionThis poster, showing a child being pushed in a wheelchair, urges the viewer to “Show Them the Sea.” It promotes the work of Le Secours Populaire Français (French Popular Relief), an organization dedicated to addressing poverty, discrimination, and equal access to resources. As the heir to several other aid organizations, it had been founded in 1945 with a special focus on children and prisoners of war after World War II. Like the Red Cross, it operates chiefly on donations and legacies, so posters like this one are necessary to enlist support for its national and international activities. In his characteristically clever and humorous design, Savignac focuses on the child in a wheelchair; the adult pushing the chair is reduced merely to hands and forearms, while the vehicle's large back wheel serves as a frame for an idyllic view of the sea.
