DescriptionEcho Download and Echo Three were produced as bonus fonts for issue 17 of FUSE, with this poster serving as both a promotion for the typefaces and the publication itself. As a conceptual typeface, Echo creates sections of text that look like they impart information, but which make no collective sense upon reading. In Echo Download, each keyboard letter is linked to three lines of abridged blind copy, while in Echo Three, the user can produce more varied point sizes and weights of similar broken phrases. The text fragments used in all versions of Echo were lifted at random from scans of The Guardian newspaper. The variation in point size derives from the use of headlines, introductory copy, and body text. Brody cut these sections into segments before assigning them to individual characters. When used, the result suggests the experimental cut-up technique made famous by William S. Burroughs and Brion Gysin.On View
