DescriptionWhile best known for his involvement in the Delano Grape Strike (1965–70), César Chávez had a lifelong history of participation in political issues surrounding laborers in the United States, particularly those from marginalized communities. Milton Glaser recommended that Carnegie Hall commission Davis to create a poster promoting a benefit concert for California grape workers, who had been protesting for higher wages since 1965. The lineup included Peter, Paul and Mary; Push Pin had designed the band’s first album cover. The Grape Strike would last until 1970, at which point many of the activists’ hard fought goals were achieved. It remains one of the most successful and influential acts of protest in U.S. history.
