DescriptionThe Fifth International Congress and Exhibition of Electronics and Atomic Energy promoted in this poster took place in Rome in 1958 during a time of escalating international development of nuclear power. The aim of the conference was to consider civil rather than military applications of this form of energy in an effort to improve lives, especially in underdeveloped countries. The potential of nuclear power to generate energy and its application to medicine and research were among the issues addressed in this context. The congress also sought to formalize health and safety regulations around nuclear power and to establish centralized technical information services. The event was accompanied by an exhibition that presented the latest nuclear and electronic devices from by various nations. In this appropriately modernist design, the scientific progress represented by the event is suggested by the rocket ship in the foreground and the colorful streaks of energy circling above the Palace of Congresses in the Eur district of Rome where the event was held.
