DescriptionThis political poster uses the tagline “La chispa de la vita” (the spark of life) introduced by Coca-Cola in 1970 for its Spanish-language advertisements. It was silkscreened on newspaper in New York City during the mid-1980s by Cody, Cass & Carol, artists and political activists, possibly to draw attention to and to subvert the efforts of such giant corporations to co-opt radical youth movements of the time. A photograph of cheering young people is set in a truck that runs over a man in black tie, representing corporate power. A bottle of coke is emptied over his head and his merciless corporate strategies are presumably linked to the scene of military destruction in the background. The group made a number of other political posters in both Spanish and English during the 1980s.
