DescriptionThis one of two posters Charles White III was commissioned to design for Levi’s during the 1970s, a period when the jeans manufacturer was hiring major artists and illustrators to create its publicity. (The other by White was captioned “Make a Big Splash in Levi’s.”) The image is both a reflection of White’s happy appropriation of popular design motifs and details and a subversive dig at the essential superficiality of commercial advertising. It was produced in San Francisco by advertising agency Foote, Cone & Belding.
