DescriptionThis poster advertising the luxury men’s clothing firm of M. Alvarez in Buenos Aries was designed after the French-born painter, sculptor, and printmaker Luciano Achille Mauzan moved to Argentina in 1927, where he established the firm of Affiches Mauzan. For five years there before he returned to France, he continued the huge success he had found in both Paris and Milan as a commercial graphic designer, producing hundreds of advertising posters under contract with the Cosmos agency, the largest in South America. Mauzan’s characteristically colorful, often humorous Art Deco compositions were to have a considerable impact on the graphic design of Argentina.
